It is with great pleasure to announce that on March 8, 2017, the Ontario Ball Hockey Federation (OBHF) achieved “full recognition” as the Provincial Sport Organization for ball hockey in Ontario.
Through this recognition the OBHF is now recognized by the Government of Ontario and is able to apply for funding through the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture & Sport's new Ontario Amateur Sport Fund (OASF). The program has been designed to support three priorities for amateur sport in the province as outlined in Game ON including:
- Participation – so that athletes (para and able bodied) are better able to participate in safe, organized sport.
- Development – to ensure that athletes receive the right support, including access to trained coaches and officials to develop their skills and progress through the development pathway overseen by Provincial Sport Organizations (PSOs) and Multi-Sport Organizations (MSOs).
- Excellence – so that athletes can do their best in high performance sport by having competitive training and development opportunities and access to the latest high performance programs, services, facilities and technologies led by sport experts.
"The opportunities to grow the sport of ball hockey in Ontario are incredible", says Shelley Callaghan, President, Ontario Ball Hockey Federation, "being recognized as the Provincial Sport Organization for ball hockey in Ontario is a major milestone for the OBHF and we are looking very forward to working closely with the Ministry to further develop this great sport throughout the province."
